A Boeing 777 operated by Pakistan International Airlines has been impounded in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The press reports that the aircraft was seized by Malaysian officials as a result of non-payment of lease obligations. 173 passengers and many staff members were on board the aircraft.
PIA leased the aeroplane bearing the registration number BMH. The event has already occurred twice, and according to sources, the outstanding balance is $4 million. The local Malaysian court revoked the decision to seize the aircraft.
The same PIA Boeing 777 was impounded at Kuala Lumpur Airport earlier in 2021 due to the same unpaid leasing issue. However, after receiving payment promise from diplomatic officials, the authorities later released the jet, and it landed in Pakistan on January 27.
