Researchers from Linköping University and the KTH Royal Institute of Technology have developed the first wooden electrical transistor in history, representing a substantial improvement in the effectiveness and sustainability of the field.

We have established a novel principle. Isak Engquist, senior associate professor at Linköping University's Laboratory for Organic Electronics, acknowledges that the wood transistor is sluggish and bulky but also works and has enormous potential for advancement.
Scientists' previous attempts to create wooden transistors only resulted in versions that could regulate ion transport. Even worse, the transistor stopped working after the ions were depleted.
The new transistor, on the other hand, can function and regulate electrical flow indefinitely. This is partly due to the balsa wood used to construct the new gadget; the technology demanded wood with a consistent grain throughout.
The lignin was removed from the wood, leaving just long cellulose fibers with channels where the lignin had previously been. An electrically conductive wood substance was created by filling these channels with PEDOT: PSS, conductive plastic, or polymer.
