According to a news release from ISPR, COAS General Syed Asim Munir met with China's State Councillor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang on Sunday to discuss regional security and defence cooperation.
The COAS pledged "full support" for the CPEC project, an essential component of China's Belt and Road Initiative, according to the military's media wing.
In addition to reiterating Pakistan's obligation to the China-Pakistan strategic partnership, COAS praised Beijing for its continuous support of Islamabad on "regional and international issues."
Foreign Minister Qin Gang stressed the importance of the long-standing strategic alliance between the brotherly countries, expressed his happiness at the CPEC's advancements, and reaffirmed China's commitment to seeing that they are completed on schedule.
He also praised Pakistan's efforts to uphold peace and stability in the area, particularly the Pakistani Armed Forces' assistance in ensuring the safety of Chinese nationals and projects in Pakistan.
The two dignitaries were also worried about the region's deteriorating security situation.
