China exported 1.07 million vehicles in the first quarter of 2023, up 58.3 percent year on year, according to data from China's General Administration of Customs (GAC), showing that China has surpassed Japan as the world's largest auto exporter.
According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, China exported 376,000 vehicles in April alone, a 2.7-fold increase over the same period in 2022, boosted by a robust production capacity of 2.13 million cars in the month.
The majority of vehicles sold abroad are new-energy vehicles, with 100,000 NEVs exported in April, which is 8.4 times the same month in 2022.
China surpassed Germany as the world's second largest automobile exporter last year. According to GAC data, China exported 3.22 million vehicles in 2022, a 56.8 percent increase year on year, whereas Germany shipped 2.61 million vehicles.
