Following a meeting with State Minister for Petroleum Musadik Malik, the association, which had previously announced that they would shut down all petrol stations starting on 22 July in protest of a non-increase in their profit margins, made the declaration to postpone the strike.

The minister reportedly promised the dealers a rise in their profit margins. He did not, however, consent to their request for a 5% pay increase.

The government will personally gather data on gasoline sales from 2,000 to 3,000 petrol stations, according to sources, in an effort to determine the proper profit margins that should be distributed to the dealers.

In an earlier warning, the dealers threatened to permanently close their petrol stations since the previous administration had broken its pledge to raise their profit margins to 5%.

Abdul Sami Khan, a spokesperson for the association, stated during a news conference at the Karachi news Club on Thursday that due to the protracted strike, fuel stations will only be open for two days throughout the month of Muharram, specifically on the 9th and 10th.

According to him, the margin per litre is currently Rs6, but the PPDA has been pushing for a raise of Rs5 to make it Rs11 per litre.

Abdul Sami claimed that the administration was ignoring the widespread Iranian petrol and diesel smuggling. The PPDA representative claims that the unlicensed selling of Iranian petrol and diesel has resulted in a considerable 30% drop in the profits of licenced petroleum dealers.
