The southeast region of Sirnak is home to what Turkish Petroleum (TPAO) estimates to be Turkey's largest onshore oil deposit, which contains 1 billion barrels of oil. This important discovery was made public on Wednesday.
Turkish Petroleum (TPAO) has announced that after drilling to a depth of 2,771 metres, they have found a light oil-bearing reservoir that extends across 162 metres. Sehit Aybuke Yalcin-1 is a well that produces 10,000 barrels of oil per day and is located 20 km northwest of Cizre town.
By the end of the year, TPAO intends to create a comprehensive field development plan, which will involve drilling more appraisal wells. The objective is to more than double Turkey's existing oil production to a pace of 100,000 barrels per day.
Turkey now imports liquefied natural gas as well as natural gas from a number of nations, including Russia, Azerbaijan, and Iran. Ankara is taking attempts to develop its own natural resources, such as the 710 billion cubic metres of natural gas reserve in the Black Sea, in order to lessen this dependence.
