Pakistan demonstrated its friendliness by releasing 198 Indian fishermen from Karachi port. According to accounts, the fishermen were transported from Landhi prison to Karachi's Cantt railway station. Faisal Edhi, the chairman of the Edhi Foundation, also left the fisherman with some gifts.
Although Pakistan planned to release 200 fishermen, two of them perished. The bodies of the deceased have been deported to India.
The remaining 198 fisherman will be handed over to Indian authorities at the Wahga Border Post in Lahore. Due to a lack of technology and the lack of defined water borders, the fishermen were arrested as they passed the water regions.
It remains to be seen whether this goodwill gesture will result in improved relations between the neighbouring countries.
