The head of the PCB management committee, Najam Sethi, has removed his name from consideration to lead the cricket governing body. He expressed his worries about becoming a "point of contention" between the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), the two parties that make up the coalition administration.
On Tuesday, Sethi announced his choice via Twitter, stating that he didn't want to add to the unpredictability and instability surrounding the board.
He made it clear that he was determined not to become a point of contention between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari.
A few days ago, Sethi also indicated his reluctance to participate in the dispute.
"I have heard rumours about who will lead the PCB. He told the reporters in Lahore on Friday, "I don't get engaged in this situation since everything depends on the patron. Additionally, he stated that he would respect any choice made by PM Shehbaz, who also serves as the PCB's patron.
"Restoring the 2014 constitution was our duty. With delegates from the regions and departments on board, elections are now set to be held. I'm going to announce the election once we have two nominees.
I don't want a mess, if you ask me. I'll be happy to go on if the patron and Zardari sahab want me to. If they want to make Zaka Sahab the chairman, I would respect their choice and depart," he continued.
The PPP and PML-N, two members of the ruling coalition government, are at odds over the choice of the PCB chairman.
Zaka Ashraf, a previous PCB chairman, is wanted back in the position by the PPP, while Sethi is wanted to stay on at the PCB by the PML-N.According to the PPP's position, since the PCB is connected to the ministry and its minister oversees the Inter-Provincial Coordination Division, the PCB's chairman ought to be chosen by the party.
