The government of Japan will honor Imtiaz Ahmad, a former Pakistani ambassador to Japan, in 2023 with the "Spring Conferment of Decorations" in recognition of his efforts to strengthen the goodwill between Pakistan and Japan and enhance bilateral ties.
The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star will be awarded to the former ambassador, the Japan Embassy in Pakistan announced.
Imtiaz Ahmad has worked as a diplomat in Japan for more than 16 years, holding almost every post from junior diplomat to ambassador.
The Pakistani Embassy in Tokyo said that Mr. Imriaz was working as the Deputy Chief of Mission when the Great East Japan Earthquake happened on March 11, 2011, at the time.
After the earthquake, he connected with the Pakistani community in Tokyo and traveled with them every weekend to the devastated areas to distribute things and serve Pakistani food.
Many Japanese people were moved by his and the Pakistani people's dedication, and both the Pakistani and Japanese media praised him for being there for the disaster victims.
