As India released more than 70000 cubic seconds of water into Pakistan's River Sutlej, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in LAHORE has issued a warning about the potential for flooding in the area.
Authorities in the area stated that water from Pakistan's eastern neighbor's large flow of water from the Harike headworks into the Sutlej River may flood nearby areas.
The DG PDMA has ordered the establishment of relief camps in all districts, thus the deputy commissioners of Kasur, Okara, Wahari, Pakpattan, and Vehari are urged to finish the preparations beforehand.
Authorities advise people to stay away from urban rivers and canals while instructing officials to safeguard the safety of lives and property.
The provincial authorities were also instructed by the national natural disaster management act (NDMA) to ensure early warning, quick action, and evacuations in flood-risk communities along the banks of the rivers Chenab, Ravi, Sutlej, and their nullahs.
Additionally, the NDMA instructed district administrations to ensure emergency traffic plans for cities that are at risk of floods along with quick dewatering activities.
Officials are keeping an eye on the situation until July 20 while advising inhabitants of high risk locations to stay informed and abide by administrative directives.
